Is Popular Culture Healthy in Regards to Beauty?

My answer is no, as a country we focus to much on beauty and body; healthy bodies. The media believes that women should be skinny with nice figures and a beautiful face nice hair and sexy features such as big boobs and a big behind. This is what Lani Girl says, I believe that this is total bull stuff just because that's not what everyone looks like and some people just won't ever get there! I wish that women and young girls these days wouldn't go off of what the media says because it's just false advertisement. Some young girls get teased at a young age or when they start to develop and they don't have everything the media potray women to have. The only thing they can do to avoid getting put down and draining their own self esteem is by letting what the media say about women not have anything to do with them or to interfere with their lives. If young girls can do that they could only worry about wat they think is important to them in life. Young girls would know their priorities and have them figured out.

  1. How do you imagine young girls are going to accomplish this change in perspective when the media is going in a completely different direction?

  2. By having morals at home. Dinner time is the best time to sit down and talk to their parents about issues going on in their lives. Then again this is all about what kind of family you have, are they conservative or can you just be so caught up in other things that you don't have that moral support at home. To me having family time and discussions is the only way girls growing up; not believing everything the media offers.

  3. So the media itself doesn't need to change? It's fine just the way it is? I'm concerned that twenty minutes a day with one's parents isn't much to combat hours every day spent with the television, internet, advertising, and movies.

  4. Of course the media could use a change but the media will never change so for that parents can choose to take away tvs in childrens room, computers in there room and any gadets they feel that they don't need. This all comes from experience, I stayed with my dad this summer and they have two tvs one in my dads room and one in the living room. All parents aren't like my step mom but she makes a summer list and instead of staying in the house watching television they walk the park, ride bikes, go golfing anything active they do it and they bascially would leave the house after 10:00a.m. after breakfast. My little sister is VERY smart without watching tv so I believe in this system I believe that this works.
