Advertisement Today

Advertisement is a make believe unrealistic figure of the human body. All you see is skinny light skinned females being portrayed as sexy is the only way to be. Older women are only used for facial creams so your face won't have wrinkles. Advertisers don't look for the regular girl walking down the street, they don't talk about the over weight girls that are depressed. Advertisers say skinny, long legged, light skinned, long haired is how women ALL women should be. Today; it might be just be but I don't see a big impact on society..no ones checking for that "beautiful make believe person" in the magazine, none of my friends complain about their weight because it seems like everyone likes to be different. To me these days advertisement is advertisement, I don't see no one killing themselves to be what they are not.

Patience In America

I think patience in America is running low because everybody wants everything done right now. Lets take Obama for instance some people think that Obama is not living up to what he said he was going to do for America but America is not giving him a chance to change things because they want things done now. Important ideas and situations don't come together if things are rushed, you can't pull the soilders out of Iraq without a plan, you can't dish out stimulus checks without a plan just like you can't make a cake without the right ingredients because it would not taste good, and on Americas part it would not look good to just do things without a plan. Good ideas take time.

More Famous Dead than Alive?

Tupac? Biggie? Michael Jackson? Do famous people get more famous after death? I think that of course they get talked about more but in reality they only get talked about till people, fans, and critics get tired of that topic. Lets talk about Michael Jackson for instance, some fans tried to over exaggerate how they felt about Michael and how they were influenced by him. I only know one person that loved his music to death before he died and that was my Pom Poms coach Anisa and when I asked her how she felt after he died she looked like she was almost about to cry but thats because she did grow up with Micheal and he was the one who inspired her to dance (we danced to Michael ALL THE TIMEEE !) I do believe some people over exaggerate famous deaths but to fit in or just make it seem like that was their all time favorite artist even though they didn't know them in real life. Tupac and Biggie; no one talks about them anymore and that's why I said people will talk about you when you die till your story gets old.

Reality Shows Relation

Reality Shows sometimes affect people that continue to watch it just because they might feel they can relate to the characters in the show. My friend Alyssa can relate to Snooky in Jersey Shore not because of her dumb blonde ways or her tan but just because of height, size, they almost look alike minus the tan and they both like to have fun. Viewers like to watch reality shows because of drama and maybe past experiences; they can relate to. To me drama is what makes the reality shows popular because without it the shows would be boring. I don't watch reality shows anymore just because I don't have the time to watch TV. When I did watch reality shows which were Laguna Beach the biggest archetype was the mean girl Kirsten, College Hill, and Baldwin Hills in these shows the biggest archetype was the person trying to make something out of theirselves and having fun with it at the same time.

Religification and Music

I talk about Music a lot because it seems like it's MY religion. I sleep, eat, breath MUSIC! My mythology is to wake up to an alarm that sings a tune, get in the shower and sing to my favorite song, then I walk to school and work listening to my phone because I download my music so I can listen and walk. Music surrounds 89% of my day. If it wasn't for school and work I would be at home writing songs and being in the studio. Some people have their favorite artist and in my case my top R&B artist are Aaliyah, Beyonce, Rihanna and Faith Evans then my top Hip-Hop artist would be Tupac, Dolla, and Eminem because they represent my generation Y just like Luke Skywalker representing Generation X. Music is my religion because I study it I'm good with old school music the mid 70's- present type of music. I read about artist, I go to concerts even though I don't worship them you would think I do they way music is in my life. I could have a great debate about who's the best artist out now and back then in the mid 70's. Music is my religion because it involves everything I do!

New Era Terror

Popular music today and being sexy can relate in many ways. Popular Hip-Hop videos sometimes has almost half naked women in them and that can relate to misogynist because the way some of the women are being portrayed in the videos. These days some of the younger generation sees that and thinks its okay to be like that because no one popular is being pushed out in the media. Now some people think it's because of Illuminati that all the good rappers are gone but that's not the issue. The issue is there's more and more people listening to those artist that have the bare women in the videos then the rappers that have good story lines and everyday issues in their songs. It's really more of what people want to listen to right now it seems like more people can relate to be sexy then to struggling now a days because you don't hear artist like Tupac or Biggie anymore, you hear about girls having sex with guys instead of Aaliyah telling you she can be More then A Women or being One in A Million. To me media has gone downhill.

Hip-Hop & Country Music

Country music can relate to Hip-Hop in just a few ways things like who are the lyrics dedicated to. In Hip-Hop all songs don't talk about death, killing, sex or drugs..they talk about being mistreated; women being mistreated. Artist like Common, Tupac, Biggie and Dolla talk about things that people can relate to. Kanye West doesn't always talk about bitches and hoes and he's an up-to-date artist Wale is a story teller who also is up-to-date; that's what Hip-Hop is all about having your fans relate to your music. Country music is for an everyday person it's simple music that you can relate to also. Country music has their own stations on television that are dedicated to that type of music and so does Hip-Hop. they have a station called MTV Jams where they play Hip-Hop and a minimum amount of R&B they have shows that are dedicated to MC's (Who's the best MC?) Country music and Hip-Hop can relate they just have totally two different people listening to them.

Popular Culture Media

In class we discussed how popular culture media pertains to our culture and one point that stood out the most was how popular culture media is unhealthy. Jersey Shore was a good point, people don't go out and party everyday they get up and go to work or school. That show is a made up scripted "reality show" and I put reality in quotations because it's not what you do in everyday life. Steven Johnson pointed out that his nephew helped him figure out how to play the Sims game; it's a game based on balancing your city, how to make your city a good place to stay by having jobs and good security. The Sims game would make us more aware on how we could elect better people for our country because we know (or the people that play the Sims game) know more about planning and providing for our city, state, and country. These days no one plays The Sims game as much as they did when it came out most people are either playing Basketball games or War games and the war games these days are terrifying there's more blood and you can see that killing is more precise then it was when you played the duck game on Nintendo. In high school teachers refuse to update the way they teach because that's the only way they know how to communicate. Students use Spark Notes and end up reading a book that they have for half a semester in just a few hours because of Spark Notes. Ryan who was being Cyber Bullied learned how to kill his self from a website. Teens text while their driving because they feel like they can do both, they don't think about dying they think about getting the message out. Popular Culture Media is not making us any healthier so that's why I think it's unhealthy for us.

Sexy or Cute? It's Halloween time!

Me and my friend Tajerah are deciding on what costumes to wear this year. Tajerah hasen't really came up with anything yet but Dirty Dana because her boyfriend is going to be Michael Jackson, I thought that was a good idea. Lady Gaga, Tina Turner or a Sailor/Military costume is what im deciding between. Some of the costumes seem to be a little too sexy so im also trying to go for Wonder Woman. It's getting harder to decide because I haven't been to a store or anything like that yet to try anything on I've been seeing everything online. What do you think I should go for? To me Lady Gaga and Tina Turner is sexy and Sailor/Military and Wonder Woman is cute ..which would be more out of the ordinary? Sexy or Cute?

Muscles/Atheletics/Sports Results

"Masculine- Pertaining to or characteristic of a man or men; having qualities traditionally ascribed to men, as strength and boldness." http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/masculinity  This definition describes strength which does come from playing sports, being atheletic and having muscles. In my opinion these qualities are not important but they are important to men if they want to become atheletic or have muscles. To have masculinity you would need to obtain these qualities, you don't have to look like your taking steriods or anything like that just staying in shape is important and it can also help your life span. Other charecteristics like attitude and confidence is more of the macho type so that really doesn't fall into being masculine. Other characteristics such as being the man of the house, hard working, loving and taking care of his family fall into just being a REAL MAN, those to me are some things that men should be doing anyway. Those characteristics don't describe masculine to me based on what the definition is in the dictionary.

The most interesting readingggg ..hmmmm :)

In my opinion the most interesting reading with the most facts would have to be "Only Two Percent of Women Describe Themselves as Beautiful." There was way more information, they didn't just look at the U.S. views they got opinions from around the world. It's easy to get opnions from the same "culture" then to go out and discover what other cultures views on beauty are. This article was written by a company but of course they studies were from around the world this is what makes the article interesting for the reader. It's important that the reader knows what different women think about beauty so they can really sit and think, what is beauty? They might even change there views on beauty ..I changed my views on beauty after ready this. It's not what's on the outside that makes you beautiful it's what's on the inside. This article broadens your way of thinking.

O M G, Porn !!!

Porn porn porn, who is it hurting..we'll the viewers I must say. Who is it benefiting? The porno stars. I gues the proper role of porn is for someone to experience a high level of arousal if they're watching it alone or with the one they are having sex with. The down fall of watching this porn is you can lose your family over it, people will start to look at you different and your life is just not the same anymore. Some people have sex addictions so they watch porn for over ten years and end up alone because people find out about them watching these movies/shows etc. Porn can destroy lives but at the same time make others famous. Jesse Jane wants to be a brand and she's working her way up to be the next Jenna James. Kelli McCarty (one of my favorite "Passions, the soap opera" characters) became a porn star just because she wanted to do something different. I feel that if they want to be sexual in the media without a problem that's them that's how they make there money. I will try not to be against it but to me it's just not right, it's wrong for them to be comfortable showing everything on camera! That's what Lani Girl Says! :)

Is Popular Culture Healthy in Regards to Beauty?

My answer is no, as a country we focus to much on beauty and body; healthy bodies. The media believes that women should be skinny with nice figures and a beautiful face nice hair and sexy features such as big boobs and a big behind. This is what Lani Girl says, I believe that this is total bull stuff just because that's not what everyone looks like and some people just won't ever get there! I wish that women and young girls these days wouldn't go off of what the media says because it's just false advertisement. Some young girls get teased at a young age or when they start to develop and they don't have everything the media potray women to have. The only thing they can do to avoid getting put down and draining their own self esteem is by letting what the media say about women not have anything to do with them or to interfere with their lives. If young girls can do that they could only worry about wat they think is important to them in life. Young girls would know their priorities and have them figured out.
